ABOUT THE STUDIO
Glass Flameworking
Glass Flameworking is a technique of forming objects from glass using a powerful torch. Flameworking stems from an ancient tradition of glassmaking that was used in Ancient Egypt to produce highly decorated and prized glass vessels that were buried in tombs and that survive today. When heated in a flame, glass becomes soft and can be manipulated and blown into the desired shape. In the recent past, the source of the flame was an oil or paraffin lamp used in conjunction with foot-powered bellows. Today, high powered gas-fueled torc hes are used.
